titleOfInvention | Miniature Non-Directional Microphone |
abstract | A miniature microphone is provided that includes a diaphragm suspended compliantly with an enclosed air volume over having a vent port, the air volume surrounded by the effective stiffness of the diaphragm against displacement due to acoustic vibrations. And in principle by the port. The microphone may be formed by silicon microfabrication techniques and has a sensitivity to sound pressure over a wide range of actual sizes, substantially independent of the size of the diaphragm. The diaphragm is provided with a circumferential gap which, for example, by means of beams or tabs, rotates rotationally about movement through the arc with respect to acoustic vibrations and surrounds the diaphragm while separating it from the support structure. The volume behind the diaphragm provides spring restoring force against the diaphragm. The sensitivity of the microphone is related to the air volume, the circumference and the stiffness of the diaphragm and its supporting structure, and not the area of the diaphragm. |
