abstract | An optical storage medium having a data layer suitable for reading using a radiation beam in an optical scanning device and access control means for prohibiting the reading of at least some of the information stored for a predetermined period of time to provide a delayed viewing window. Preferably, the access control means correspond to an access control layer selected to cover at least a portion of the data layer and prohibit access to the data layer. The onset of a predetermined period of time can be determined by the exposure of the access control layer to the active material. The diffusion barrier layer can control the length of the predetermined period. Such optical storage media are preferably used to distribute content having a fixed release date. |
