titleOfInvention Hybrid Impact Modifiers and Methods for Making the Same
abstract The present invention is directed to a hybrid impact modifier made by:n n n Spray drying, coagulation, freeze coagulation or other known recovery methods of latex or slurries of standard impact modifiers and mixtures of mineral filler slurries,n n n co-drying (i) by spray-drying, coagulation, other known recoverable methods) (i) latex or slurry of standard impact modifiers and (ii) mineral filler slurry,n n n In addition to the coagulation or freeze coagulation, there may be filtration and drying steps for recovering the hybrid impact modifier as a powder.n n n The host polymer to be impact modified can be any thermoplastic polymer. Advantageously polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyamide (PA), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polystyrene (PS), polycarbonate (PC), thermoplastic polyester such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), poly Butylene terephthalate (PBT), polycyclohexanedimethanol terephthalate, and polyolefins such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and any other polymer that can be improved by impact modifiers. The invention also relates to the use of said hybrid impact modifier in thermoplastic polymers. The invention also relates to a thermoplastic polymer containing said hybrid impact modifier. The invention also relates to a hybrid impact modifier with improved powder properties (flowability, lumping / caking resistance, separability of the organic and mineral parts). The invention also relates to a thermoplastic polymer containing said hybrid impact modifier with better dispersion homogeneity.
