abstract The elevator load bearing assembly 30 includes a jacket 34 with different portions having different polymer components. In the disclosed example, the plurality of tension members 32 are wholly or partially surrounded by the first portion 36 comprising the first polymer construct. The second portion 38 constitutes one or more outer surfaces 40 of the jacket 34 and includes a second polymer construct. In one example, surface-modifiers are added to change the composition of at least a portion of the jacket 34. In another example, coextrusion techniques using different polymer compositions make up different portions of the jacket 34.
