Methods and compositions for testing cervical diseases |
abstract |
The present invention provides compositions and methods for diagnosing high grade cervical diseases. The methods of the present invention comprise detecting one or more biomarkers that are selectively overexpressed in high grade cervical diseases in a biological sample. In particular, the biological sample is a monolayer of cervical smear or cervical cells. Biomarkers of the invention include genes and proteins involved in cell cycle, signal transduction, and DNA replication and transcription. In particular, biomarkers are S-stage genes. In some aspects of the invention, overexpression of the desired biomarker is detected at the protein level using biomarker specific antibodies or at the level of nucleic acid using nucleic acid hybridization techniques. Also provided are kits for carrying out the methods of the invention. |
