abstract The present invention relates to a rechargeable alkaline battery using a manganese dioxide (MnO 2 ) positive electrode material, a potassium hydroxide (KOH) electrolyte and a zinc (Zn) negative electrode material, wherein an additive for increasing cycle life and cumulative discharge capacity is added to the negative electrode. As an additive, a strontium compound, a barium compound, or a calcium compound is used. Each discharge capacity after 50 charge / discharge cycles of such a battery is 0.100 Ah / gMnO 2 or more.
