abstract The disclosed invention is a method for obtaining spatial frequency spectra from specific locations of 3D samples using variations of current MRI techniques for positioned NMR spectroscopy. The simplest abstraction is to add the use of a read gradient to the current NMR spectroscopic pulse sequence and record the resulting echo. This technique produces a spectrum from the selected area or an image of the result in the area of the sample. This method can be applied not only to analyzing the structure of fibrous bone, but also to analyzing or diagnosing disease when there is a difference in spatial frequency power spectrum due to physiological or disease processes. Various embodiments are disclosed.
