Medical devices are provided for implantation into blood vessels or lumen structures in the body, which stimulate positive vessel remodeling. Medical devices, such as stents and synthetic grafts, are coated with a pharmaceutical composition consisting of one or more pharmaceutical agents and a controlled-release matrix for direct delivery of the drug to surrounding tissue. The coating on the medical device further includes a ligand, such as a peptide, an antibody, or a small molecule, to capture progenitor endothelial cells at the blood contact surface of the device to reconstruct the endothelial at the site of injury. In particular, drug-coated stents are for use in balloon angioplasty methods, for example to prevent or prevent restenosis. |
