Recombinant yeast is described wherein the yeast is a pyruvate decarboxylase (PDC) active negative (PDC-negative), wherein pyruvate carboxylase (PYC), where PYC is active in the cytosol Represents; A coding region encoding malic dehydrogenase enzyme (MDH), wherein MDH is active in the cytosol and is not inactivated in the presence of glucose; And a coding region encoding malic acid transport protein (MAE). Also described are methods for producing malic acid by culturing such yeast in a medium comprising a carbon source and a carbon dioxide source and separating malic acid from the medium. |
