abstract The present invention relates to a mixture of L-pyroglutamate stereoisomers and D-pyroglutamate stereoisomers and L-pyroglutamate stereoisomers and D-pyroglutamate stereoisomers having an L: D ratio of about 80:20 to about 97: 3. A composition comprising a carrier medium for application to a target plant. The composition can be used as a germination medium and can be mixed with the seed coating to aid germination. The present invention also provides a mixture of L-pyroglutamate stereoisomers and D-pyroglutamate stereoisomers with an L: D ratio of about 80:20 to about 97: 3 and the L-pyroglutamate stereoisomer and D-pyroglutamate stereoisomer. A method of increasing the agronomic performance of a target plant, comprising treating the target plant with a composition comprising a carrier medium for the isomers.
