abstract |
A quartz glass article is provided having a surface treated with novel coating materials that provide reducing chemistry, wherein in quartz environments exposed to molten silicon or in similar corrosive environments, a quartz glass crucible with reducing chemistry To form crystalline structures covering at least 75% of the coated surface. The surface covered with crystals provides a more stable surface in contact with the silicon melt and the growth of single crystal silicon. In one embodiment of the invention, the coating material provides one of a hydrogenated, methylated surface over the coated surface and forms rosette structures or other crystalline forms covering at least 80% of the coated surface. In order to do so, it comprises at least one methyl group. In another embodiment of the invention, the coating material is selected from at least one of amines, organosilane halogens and mixtures thereof. |
