abstract The present invention relates to an optically reliable high refractive index (HRI) sealant for use in light emitting diodes (LEDs) and lighting devices based thereon. This material may be used in optically reliable HRI light guiding core materials for polymer-based optical waveguides for use in optical-communication and optical-interconnection applications. The sealant comprises treated nanoparticles coated with organic functional groups sprayed on epoxy resins and silicone polymers, which exhibit RI-1.7 or higher at low values of light absorption coefficient α <0.5 cm −1 at 525 nm. The sealant uses a compositionally improved TiO 2 nanoparticle that imparts greater light fall resistance to the HRI sealant.
