Isocyanates, polyols and foaming components are reacted in the presence of reactive double bond components, particularly acrylates, to prepare polyurethanes and subjected to reactive double bond components and radical initiated crosslinking to produce foamed bodies. In one embodiment, the foam-forming and crosslinking are carried out simultaneously, and the organic peroxide can be included as a crosslinking initiator. In another embodiment, the crosslinking reaction is preferably performed after foam-forming using E-beam activation. In this case, different formulations, polyether polyols with MW of at least 1500, non-MDI, polymer modified polyols or non HR formulations are used. Also in this case, a hardness increase of at least 10% is obtained without soot using the selected formulation, or a controlled use of 0.1 to 10 parts of double bond component results in a low soot foam without soot with at least 4 parts water as blowing agent.
