titleOfInvention | Cancer markers and detection methods |
abstract | The present invention relates to cancer markers and methods of detecting cancer markers in a sample. The sample may be peripheral blood. Cancer markers are mostly DNA sequences associated with mutated or abnormal metastatic cancers. Markers can be detected using PCR, microarrays, or other nucleic acid or peptide-based assays. These methods can be used for a variety of diagnostic purposes or treatment progression, including initial, early-stage or late diagnosis and monitoring of cancer, especially metastatic cancer. Cancer markers can also be used to generate cancer marker profiles. Therapies can be prescribed based on this profile. In addition, methods using blood may provide a cancer marker profile of mutation or abnormality found in one or more of several tumors in the body, instead of just one tumor. The invention also includes kits and microarrays, such as, for example, primer kits, for use in the practice of various methods. |
