titleOfInvention System and method for managing virtual hostname roaming and virtual IP addresses
abstract The present invention relates to a system and method for assigning a unique network identifier to one or more programs called on a computer and providing a consistent addressing network scheme to a user accessing the network independently of the computer from which the user accesses the network. The computer obtains a plurality of network identifiers, associates the first network identifier to a first program called on the computer, and associates the second network identifier to a second program called on the computer. The program may be a user session hosted by a computer, application or application separation environment. Via the network communication interface, the computer transmits the first identifier with the network communication of the first program and the second network identifier with the network communication of the second program. In addition, a virtual host name may be assigned a virtual host name associated with a virtual IP address of a user, a user session, or a program that the user executes. When a user accesses the network from another computer, the user may be assigned the same virtual host name and in some cases the same virtual IP address.
