Smoking articles having at least one regenerative tobacco split inner wrap strip are described. One or more split inner wrap strips develop coaxially along the tobacco rod between the inner rod of the outer wrap of cigarette paper and the tobacco rod. This tobacco blend contains secondary cigarettes such as Burley and flue-cure, Oriental, Maryland, or rare and exotic tobacco, and combinations thereof. Such blends improve Burley smoking properties without increasing Hoffman analyte levels, particularly tobacco-specific nitrosamines (ie, TNSA).
