abstract The ignition wire includes a conductive core, an insulating layer surrounding the conductive core, an insulating jacket surrounding the insulating layer, and a coating layer grafted to at least a portion of an outer surface of the insulating jacket. The coating layer and the insulating jacket layer are formed of a silicon material. The coating layer acts to provide improved resistance to heat and abrasion, and other benefits to the outer surface of the insulating jacket. The coating layer provides a clear, aesthetically pleasing clear coating and is tinted or colored to provide various decorative properties to the outer surface of the ignition wire. The coating layer provides improved protection without reducing the electrical or mechanical performance characteristics of the insulating layer or jacket. The coating layer also provides a protective action against the decorative layer attached to the outer side of the insulating jacket.
