As a catalyst element, Au, Ag, Pt, Ru, Ir, Cu, Fe, Co, Ni, Mo, Mn, etc. are used, for example. The composite particles for electrodes include, for example, a step of preparing active material particles having a catalytic element for promoting growth of carbon nanofibers at least in the surface layer portion, and carbon nanofibers on the surface of the active material particles in an atmosphere containing source gas. It can be produced by a method having a process of growing.
