titleOfInvention | Encapsulated particles |
abstract | Encapsulated particles include core particles. The core particles include fertilizers selected from the group of nitrogen, phosphates, caustic potassium, and sulfur, and combinations thereof. In addition, the core particles may include herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides. The encapsulated particles also include a polyurethane layer disposed around the core particles. The polyurethane layer comprises an aromatic isocyanate component and the reaction product of a polyol reactive with the aromatic isocyanate component. The aromatic isocyanate component includes methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, toluene diisocyanate, and mixtures thereof. The polyol reactive with the aromatic isocyanate component is derived from an aromatic amine initiator and contains toluene diamine. The aromaticity of the aromatic isocyanate component and the polyol serves to ensure complete mixing between the aromatic isocyanate and the polyol, thereby forming a polyurethane layer without defects, thereby preventing water from seeping into the polyurethane layer and dissolving the core particles. . |
