abstract |
An apparatus and method for transdermal delivery of a vaccine may comprise (i) a microprojection member (or system) having a plurality of microprojections (or arrays thereof) suitable for piercing through the stratum corneum into the epidermal layer, or into the epidermal and dermal layers; And (ii) an ultrasound device. In one embodiment, the vaccine is contained in a biocompatible coating applied to the microprotrusion member. In another embodiment, the delivery system comprises a gel pack with a vaccine containing hydrogel formulation disposed on the microprotrusion member after application to the skin of the patient. In yet another embodiment, the vaccine is contained in both the coating and the hydrogel formulation. |
