Inhalation formulations containing sulfoalkyl ether γ-cyclodextrins and corticosteroids |
abstract |
The present invention provides inhalable formulations containing SAE-γ-CD and corticosteroids. The formulation is suitable for administration to a subject by spraying with a known nebulizer. The formulation may be included in the kit. The formulations are administered in aqueous solution but can be stored as dry water wells, ready-to-use solutions or concentrated compositions. The formulations are used in improved spray systems for corticosteroid administration by inhalation. SAE-γ-CD present in the formulation significantly improves the chemical stability of budesonide. Methods of administering the formulation by inhalation are provided. The formulations may also be administered by conventional non-delivery devices. The formulation may comprise one or more therapeutic agents for use in admixture with a corticosteroid. SAE-γ-CD is particularly useful for solubilizing esterified corticosteroids. |
