The present invention relates to a thin reinforcing nonwoven fabric for fire protection of an article, an article containing the nonwoven fabric, and a method for producing the nonwoven fabric and a fire protection method for the article. When exposed to heat or flame, the nonwoven can increase thickness by more than three times. The nonwoven fabric includes an open mesh scrim having crimped, heat resistant organic fibers thereon and is kept compressed by a thermoplastic binder. When exposed to high temperatures of heat or flame, the binder in the structure can soften and flow to release the suppressed crimped fibers, thereby greatly increasing the thickness of the nonwoven fabric.n n n Reinforced Nonwovens, Fire Retardant, Open Mesh Scrim, Crimped, Heat Resistant Organic Fiber, Thermoplastic Binder |
