How to Treat Asthma |
abstract |
Described herein are methods of identifying agents useful for treating asthma. The method includes screening agents that inhibit the production of PKC-θ protein as well as agents that inhibit the kinase activity of the PKC-θ protein or functional fragments thereof, wherein such agents are useful for the treatment of asthma. The method also includes screening for agents that inhibit the production of reporter gene products encoded by nucleic acid sequences operably linked to a PKC-θ promoter. Also described are methods of treating asthma, including administering an agent that inhibits the production of functional PKC-θ protein or kinase activity of PKC-θ protein or functional fragments thereof. Also described are isolated mast cells lacking expression of endogenous PKC-θ. |
