Microporous shaped articles are made from polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and nucleating agents using a thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) process. Microporous shaped articles are drawn in one or more directions with a draw ratio of at least about 1.1: 1.0. Molded articles may also include diluents, glyceryl triacetate. Microporous shaped articles may also have micropores filled with a sufficient amount of ion conductive electrolyte to allow the membrane to act as an ion conductive membrane. The process for producing the microporous product comprises melt blending polyvinylidene fluoride, nucleating agent and glyceryl triacetate and forming shaped articles of this mixture; Cooling the molded article to cause crystallization of polyvinylidene fluoride and phase separation of polyvinylidene fluoride and glyceryl triacetate; Stretching the molded article in one or more directions at a draw ratio of at least about 1.1: 1.0.n n n n Microporous Film, Polyvinylidene Fluoride, PVDF Film, Nucleating Agent, Thermally Inductive Phase Separation |
