abstract The present invention relates to a method for producing a coating molded article 59 by in-mold coating. The method comprises a rotatable core 29 having at least one forming surface 32, 35, a first die 11 and a second having an inner surface 14, 20, respectively, reversibly engaging the rotatable core, respectively. The use of a molding apparatus 1 comprising a die 17. The second die 17 has a reversibly sliding portion 23 having an inner surface 26 that substantially defines the inner surface 20 of the second die 17. The inner surface 14 of the first die 11 and the forming surface 32 of the rotatable core together define a first mold cavity 38 in which the plastic molded article 44 is formed. When the molding apparatus is open, the core 29 is rotated so that the plastic molded article 44 is aligned with the inner surface 20 of the second die 17. The second die 17 is engaged with the rotatable core 29, and an intermediate second mold cavity 53 is formed, into which the coating composition 56 is introduced. The reversibly sliding portion 23 of the second die 17 moves toward the rotatable core 29 such that the volume of the intermediate second mold cavity 53 is reduced and the coating composition 56 introduced therein The coating composition diffuses over the first surface 50 of the plastic molded article 44. The molding apparatus 1 is opened and the coated molding 59 is separated from the rotatable core 29.
