abstract The insertion tool mounts an elastic band 50, a discharge pin 43, and a cartridge assembly 40 that supports the transcorneal shunt 10 in the insertion process. The adjacent flange 12 of the shunt is gently gripped in a visible position in the adjustable opening of the elastic band at the remote end of the discharge pin. A sliding device is provided along the outer surface of the insertion tool that drives the cartridge assembly that exerts a tension on the elastic band, increasing the opening diameter that secures the shunt and allowing release of the shunt when desired. An alternative embodiment of the insertion tool is to use a seamable fiber, a transparent branched-mile sheet or diaphragm, cantilever fork, collet assembly elastic grip collet to gently grip and release the shunt upon insertion.
