Silane moisture cured heat resistant fibers made from polyolefin elastomers |
abstract |
An improved method for crosslinking polyolefin polymers is disclosed. The method involves grafting the silane material onto the polyolefinic polymer in the presence of free radical generating initiator material and then hydrolyzing the silane material to form crosslinks. By setting the effective molar ratio of the silane material to the free radicals used in the grafting reaction to 40 or more, premature crosslinking can be suppressed and the grafted polymer can be first molded and then crosslinked. In another aspect of the present invention, the crosslinking process is improved by adding a catalyst for the hydrolysis reaction to the surface of the molded article made of the grafted polymer. Also disclosed are grafted polymers and articles made from grafted polymers, in particular fibers. |
