The present invention relates to compounds of formula (I), wherein X is O, S, SO 2 , C (R 3 ) 2 , NR 3 or Si (R 3 ) 2 , wherein R 3 is substituted or unsubstituted C 6 to C 40 aryl, C 6 to C 24 aralkyl, or C 1 to C 24 alkyl; Ar is a substituted or unsubstituted C 6 to C 40 aryl or heteroaryl group; Ar is substituted or unsubstituted C 6 to C 40 aryl or heteroaryl; Hal is Br, Cl or I. This compound is useful as a precursor for semiconductor polymers containing repeat units of formula (II). Polymers are useful as interlayers for electroluminescent devices and field effect transistors. The inclusion of tricyclic arylamines in the backbone of fluorene-based optoelectronic polymers provides improved device efficiency at low voltages, as well as polyfluorenes compared to polyfluorenes having other charge transport groups such as acrylic triarylamines. |
