abstract |
The present invention includes improved antifreeze coolant compositions having specific additives that increase the thermal stability of the glycol component of the glycol / water coolant composition and reduce the degradation propensity of the glycol component under elevated temperature conditions. Such additives include organic compounds having carboxylic acid residues and hydroxyl residues, and or tricarbali acid. In another aspect of the invention, a glycol / water coolant in an engine cooling / heating system is prepared by adding a thermal stability additive to the glycol / water coolant composition to make an improved coolant composition and contacting the enhanced coolant composition with an engine cooling / heating system. A method of improving the stability of the glycol component of a composition. |
