abstract Siloxane bischloroformates are prepared continuously by phosgenating siloxane bisphenols in a flow reactor using a significant excess of phosgene and sodium hydroxide. Very high levels (greater than 95%) of the conversion of siloxane bisphenols to the corresponding siloxane bischloroformates have been achieved using a flow reactor according to the present method, while siloxane bisphenols have been produced when using a similar batch process. A more moderate conversion (about 90%) to siloxane bischloroformate was achieved. The method is promising for use in the preparation of silicone containing copolycarbonates that require high purity siloxane bischloroformate intermediates.
