abstract The present invention integrates an inverse gamma correction process or a sub-field conversion process to simplify the process of generating a sub-field array for gray scale display of an image to be displayed and to reduce the memory used in the process of generating a sub-field array. It relates to a driving device of the plasma display panel. In the plasma display panel driving apparatus according to the present invention, an image signal input from the outside is processed to be divided into frame units, and the gray scale display is performed by dividing each frame into a plurality of subfields having respective gray scale weights. And an image processor configured to process the image signal to generate digital image data, a drive controller to generate a drive control signal from the image data, and a driver to apply a drive signal according to the drive control signal to each of the electrode lines. In the plasma display panel drive apparatus comprising: the drive control unit includes a subfield converter, a storage unit, and a drive control signal generator. The subfield converter generates subfield data corresponding to the image data from the subfield data according to the inverse gamma correction value of the image data. The storage means stores an integrated table for subfield arrangement, which is referred to when generating subfield data. The drive control signal generator generates a drive control signal from the subfield data.
