The role of p62 in aging-related diseases is described herein, eg, obesity, type 2 diabetes, the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver and various tumors, increased male mortality, intracellular inclusions called sequetosomes, and redox control. This is described. In particular, described herein are methods for detecting the formation of inclusion bodies in neurodegenerative diseases. The present invention further relates to a method for screening a therapeutic agent for dispersing said inclusion body. In addition, transgenic mice containing mutations in the p62 gene and having functionally disrupted p62 locus are also described. |
