One aspect of the present invention relates to an ionic liquid comprising a suspension Bronsted acidic group, for example a sulfonic acid group. Another aspect of the invention relates to the use of an ionic liquid comprising a suspended Bronsted acidic group to catalyze a Bronsted acid catalyzed chemical reaction. A third aspect of the invention relates to an ionic liquid comprising a suspended nucleophilic group, for example an amine. Another aspect of the invention relates to the use of an ionic liquid comprising a suspended nucleophilic group to catalyze a nucleophilic monolithic chemical reaction. A fifth aspect of the invention relates to the use of an ionic liquid comprising a suspended nucleophilic group to remove gaseous impurities, such as carbon dioxide, from a gas, such as an unpleasant natural gas. |
