The present invention relates to a composition based on zirconium oxide and cerium oxide having an atomic ratio Zr / Ce> 1 and further comprising lanthanum oxide and oxides of rare earths except cerium and lanthanum. The present invention is characterized in that the specific surface area of the composition after calcination for 6 hours at 1150 ℃ 10 m 2 / g or more. The composition is obtained by forming a sol of a zirconium compound and a mixture containing cerium, lanthanum, the rare earth compound, contacting the mixture with a basic compound solution, and heating and calcining the resulting precipitate. The composition can be used as a catalyst. |
