abstract A method for electrical mapping of the pulmonary veins of the heart is provided, the method comprising inserting a catheter having a curved portion and a base portion into the heart, the base portion being attached to the proximal end of the curved portion. . At one position of the curved portion, a first position signal having position and orientation information less than six dimensions is generated. Near the distal end of the base portion, a second position signal with six-dimensional position and orientation information is generated. The method also includes measuring electrical characteristics of the pulmonary vein at one or more locations of the curved portion.
