abstract |
New compositions containing SF 4 -O-CF 3 bound to organic groups are disclosed. Aryl trifluoromethoxytetrafluorosulfuran (ie Ar-SF 4 -O-CF 3 ) was synthesized through the reaction of aryl disulfide or thiol with fluorooxytrifluoromethane (F 3 COF). The compositions can be derivatized as useful synthetic monomers to produce novel liquid crystal compositions with highly electrically polar molecules, especially high dielectric anisotropy. Cycloalkyl trifluoromethoxytetrafluorosulfuran also has similar utility. |
