The present invention relates to compositions for the diagnosis and treatment of growth and proliferation of neoplastic cells in mammals, including humans, and methods of diagnosis and treatment. The present invention is based on the identification of genes amplified in the genome of tumor cells. Such gene amplification is associated with overexpressed gene products compared to normal cells of the same tissue type and is believed to be responsible for tumor development. Thus, the protein encoded by the amplification gene is believed to be a useful target for the diagnosis and / or treatment (including prevention) of certain cancers and to serve as an example of the prognosis of tumor treatment. In addition, the present invention provides a vector comprising a nucleic acid sequence and a host cell, a chimeric polypeptide molecule comprising the polypeptide of the present invention in fusion with a heterologous polypeptide sequence, an antibody binding to the polypeptide of the present invention, and the polypeptide of the present invention. A method is provided. |
