By solving the problems of the prior art, a novel copolymer suitable as a coating film forming polymer which has excellent adhesion to a substrate and can be suitably used as a coating film forming polymer having durability against pattern collapse when forming fine patterns in advanced lithography techniques. , A method for preparing the copolymer, and a novel thiol compound useful as a chain transfer agent in the preparation of the copolymer are provided.
