The present invention relates to aqueous ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) polymer emulsions suitable for heat seal products. EVA polymers of the present invention are prepared by a relatively low pressure process, ie, less than 2000 psig, preferably from about 1000 to about 2000 psig. Aqueous EVA-based polymer emulsions contain crystalline segments resulting from ethylene bonds and are emulsion polymerized with ethylene and vinyl acetate, preferably with carboxylic monomers, in the presence of a stabilization system containing a surfactant or a cellulose protective colloid mixed with a surfactant.
