abstract | The present invention reacts a halobutyl elastomer with at least one organic compound containing at least one basic nitrogen-containing group and at least one hydroxyl group and optionally at least one silazane compound before mixing the filler and the halobutyl elastomer. A method of making a filled halobutyl elastomer comprising mixing with at least one of the prepared mineral fillers and optionally curing the filled elastomer with a sulfur or other curing agent system. The present invention relates to a filled halobutyl elastomer compound which comprises: (a) no alcohol is produced during preparation or during subsequent use of an article made from the compound, and (b) silica as a mineral filler and hydroxyl-containing and amine-containing additives as dispersion aids. The scorch stability of is improved and (c) the cost of the compound is significantly reduced compared to similar compounds currently known in the art. |
