abstract | The present invention relates to a method for sterilizing and / or sanitizing a container using a sterilizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide. The sterilant vapor is discharged through a nozzle 50 located in the opening of the vessel 12, and then the vessel 12 is flushed out of the released sterilant using heated gas such as sterile air. The nozzle 50 is preferably located at a distance of at least 15 mm from the bottom surface or any inner surface of the container 12 and between 1/6 and 5/6 of the height of the container 12. The nozzle 50 has a diameter no greater than half the diameter of the opening of the container 12. When a container made of a non-heated set of PET is used, the temperatures of the sterilant vapor and the flushing gas are preferably below 160 ° F. |
