Provided are a coating composition capable of forming a fluorine-containing coating having a low refractive index and a high hardness, a coating formed using the coating composition, an antireflection film using the coating, an antireflection film applying the antireflection film, and an image display device. The coating composition according to the present invention comprises (A) a fluorine-containing component (a) having any one or both of a functional group cured by ionizing radiation and a polar group which is thermally cured, and as a whole a functional group cured by ionizing radiation, and A binder system containing all of the polar groups to be thermally cured, and (B) can be dispersed in colloidal form in a liquid medium for preparing a coating liquid, and also contain inorganic ultrafine particles having a submicron size. The coating formed using this coating composition is suitable for forming the light transmitting layer, especially the low refractive index layer 20, which constitutes the single layer or multilayer antireflection film 17. |
