Environmentally friendly lubricants |
abstract |
Synthetic esters in combination with transesterified triglyceride base oils can be used to formulate biodegradable lubricants that are at least 60% biodegradable and have a gelation index of about 12 or less. Combinations of ester viscosity index improvers and olefin copolymer viscosity index improvers may also be added. In addition, a standard dispersant / inhibitor package can be used by blending the composition with mineral oil to lower the polarity. It is also possible to prepare a full range of SAE grade engine oils for gasoline-fuel and diesel-fuel engines by mixing high and low viscosity mineral oils in the formulation. |
