The present invention relates to the assembly of a plurality of joined panel parts. Some of the individual portions include a curable adhesive that is preapplied to one or more sides or edges. Curing is activated when the starting metal activator is applied to the make-up edge and the parts are assembled. Pre-applied adhesive systems contain monomers, initiators, oligomers, acids, and sulfonyl compounds. An activating or starting metal foil, dispersion or coating is applied to the supplemental surface. Bonding is achieved when the adhesive system is activated by matching the edges. The activating metal is a reducing element transition metal. The metal is attached to one surface in proximity to the curable adhesive compound dispersed in the supplemental portion. The present invention has utility in joining wood, wood products, composites of wood, thermoset polymer panels, non-starting metal panels, and thermoplastic / wood composites to provide self-assembled assemblies having an exterior surface such as a wall or floor covering. |
