abstract |
The present invention relates to the efficient oxidation of steroids comprising cyclohexene residues to the corresponding α, β-unsaturated ketone residues using copper iodide and t-butyl hydroperoxide. Steroid compounds comprising α, β-unsaturated ketone structures are effectively converted to the corresponding adjacent diols using hydroborating reagents followed by an oxidation process (eg using borane and sodium perborate). Benzoyl and substituted benzoyl are good protecting groups of the hydroxyl groups present in the compound. |
