The present invention relates to a method of down-regulating the activity of the HPA system to reduce chronic stress in a mammal by subjecting the mammal to an effective amount of sensory therapy. The activity of the HPA system in mammals can be down regulated by one or more of the following methods: (1) lowering the total daily amount of corticosteroids, and (2) between about 4 hours and about 8 hours after morning waking up. How to lower corticosteroids at any point in time, (3) how to lower the daily corticosteroids by subtracting the maximum integrated measurement amount in the morning. Sensory therapy is generally selected from the group consisting of hearing, sight, touch, taste, smell and combinations thereof. |
