abstract |
The present invention relates to a system 10 provided for the ultrasonic inspection of cylindrical carbon articles, such as electrodes of the type used in electric arc steel production furnaces. An inspection station 18 is provided to receive the electrode 12 in a fixed longitudinal position and to rotate the electrode about the longitudinal axis of the electrode. Mainly a robot 20 and a longitudinal robot 22 are provided, each carrying a pair of transducers 60, 62, which are arranged to engage the electrodes at positions circumferentially spaced around the electrode. The inspection station rotates the electrodes, with the main robot and longitudinal robot each carrying a pair of transducers connected along approximately one half of the length of the electrode. |
