Aromatic nitration reactions |
abstract |
The present invention discloses a method for nitrating an aromatic compound in which the aromatic compound is mixed with a nitrating agent in the presence of an ionic liquid. The method of nitrating aromatic compounds in ionic (eg neutral) liquids has advantages over conventional nitrations, such that the only by-product is water, the ionic liquid is not consumed, and the nitrating agent is relatively inexpensive. . |
