The method and apparatus for transporting compressed gas includes a gas storage system (see drawing), which can be modular or integrated into the vessel 10 and has a diameter connected by a manifold (see FIG. 10). A plurality of large, high strength steel pipes 14 are provided and the gas storage system (see figure) is designed to operate in the optimum compression coefficient range for a given gas composition. Knowing the desired compression coefficient and the selected low temperature, one can determine the diameter and wall thickness of the pipe 12 for a given pressure range of gas at that selected low temperature (FIG. 4). Using the vessel 10 with the gas storage system designed for the gas of a particular composition produced at a given location, the gas is routed from the production point 113 to the port 141 for unloading the gas hundreds or thousands of miles away. It may be used for transporting and discharging the gas 144 from the gas storage system. |
