titleOfInvention | Inks and other compositions incorporating limited quantities of solvent advantageously used in ink jetting applications |
abstract | Radiation curable inks comprising low surface tension solvent component quantities provide inherent processability that enables the formation and curing of ink sprayed shapes having good flow, adhesion, dot enlargement, compatibility, weatherability and curability. In an exemplary printing method, there is provided an ink sprayable ink composition comprising 1-15% by weight of a solvent component comprising at least one oligo / resin, a radiation curable reactive diluent having a surface tension, and a solvent having a surface tension. The surface tension of the solvent is not approximately greater than the surface tension of the reactive diluent, and is preferably at least 2 dyne / cm less than the surface tension of the reactive diluent. The ink composition is jetted onto the substrate to form an ink jetted shape. While at least a portion of the solvent is in the ink sprayed shape, the ink sprayed shape is applied to the amount of curing energy under conditions effective to at least substantially cure the radiation curable component of the printed shape and at least substantially dry the ink sprayed shape.
